Trailer lighting is a critical element of any trailer. These lights are specifically designed to ensure that other drivers on the road can see the trailer, especially in low-visibility conditions such as rain, fog, or snow, as well as at night. Properly functioning trailer lighting is essential for safe towing and helps to prevent accidents by making the trailer's presence and movements visible to other drivers.

Typically, trailer lighting includes taillights, brake lights, turn signals, and sometimes additional clearance lights or reflectors. Taillights are generally located at the rear of the trailer and are intended to make the trailer visible from behind. Brake lights, as the name suggests, activate when the driver applies the brakes, indicating to other drivers that the trailer is slowing down or coming to a stop. Turn signals, on the other hand, alert other drivers when the trailer is about to change lanes or make a turn. Clearance lights or reflectors are often situated on the sides of the trailer to help other drivers see the trailer, even if it is not in their direct line of sight.
